North Cyprus has a Mediterranean climate with long dry summers and short, rainy winters. The average annual temperature is 19 degrees Celsius and the swimming season is from April to October. The time zone is UTC+2 in winter and UTC+3 in summer. Turkish is the official language but English is widely spoken. The cost of living in North Cyprus will depend on your standard of living, but in general, it is around US$ 300 – US$500 per month (excluding textbooks and accommodation).

All exchange students must arrive during the Orientation Period when students are provided with information about the institution's values, behavioral norms, support services, and better acquaintance with other new students, current students, and faculty and staff members.

All new students arriving within the orientation period will be transferred to the EMU campus from Ercan Airport and will be accommodated for two days for free. For our exchange students, we request they inform us of their arrival details at least 5 business days before by sending an email to studentexchange@emu.edu.tr

Fees and Expenses

Activity funds: Students registered to EMU's Exchange Program are exempted from tuition fee payments. They are only requested to pay 200 USD (Two Hundred United States Dollars) as the activity fund. This fee includes student activities and EMU Ring Bus transportation.

Health Insurance: You are expected to purchase a residency permit and health insurance after your registration, within a maximum of 30 days after arrival. EMU does not take any responsibility for imposed penalties from the failure to fulfill this. It can be purchased online upon the official registration of the student at EMU. Payments can only be done with a local bank card, therefore we advise the student to apply for a student card upon registration. Please visit the Students Service Office for more information on how to proceed.

Health Center: Free health services including internal medicine, dermatology, dentistry, E.N.T, gynecology, psychiatry, urology, ophthalmology, Also,  EMU-PDRAM offers free and confidential services to assist students that may be experiencing difficulties studying due to personal or social.

Accommodation: Exchange students must provide us with proof of accommodation prior to their arrival. We strongly advise you to book your accommodation in one of our On-Campus dormitories before starting your journey to EMU. You may visit Dormitories in order to reserve your On-Campus accommodation.

Transportation: The university-owned free shuttle services are available on campus and between the campus and the city center throughout the year. This allows students who live off-campus to easily attend their classes.

Internet: Free Wi-Fi is available at almost every spot of the campus.

Sports: the sports facilities are accessible to all students for sports like volleyball, basketball, athletics, tennis, handball, billiards, chess, wrestling, cycling, table tennis, triathlon, football, soccer, futsal, squash, gymnastics, bodybuilding, cardio, and many more.
